Last Sunday Team Pick n Pay/Matchboxology cycled the full 110km around the beautiful Cape Peninsula with Howard Bell, our new friend from Just Giving.
Our VIP experience was hosted by The Cycletour organizers, Pick n Pay and Worldsport...folks we're looking forward to partnering with to nurture a new age of charitible giving in South Africa. For those who don't know, this is the largest timed cycle event in the world. What we saw first hand was the potential of this event (filled to the brim by nearly 40,000 riders) to generate sustainability for charities. So we'll spend the next 365 days working on just that.
But back to the day...It was a grand ride for all three of us. Only one flat tyre (courtesy of Howard's borrowed bike). Proud to say I htink all three of us roundly beat Sir Richard Branson's time across the finish line. For Howard and Paris, this was their first Cycletour finish--for Cal it was #13. Best of all, the gale force winds of past cycletours were mercifullyabsent, as were the perky Baboons on the route.
Big ups to Patch Horrigan, Bruce Parker-Forsyth, Dave Bellairs and and Malcolm Mycroft for making this year's ride so special.
